Homeschool Day at the Capitol

Home / The Issues / Archives
Thank you for this high honor. It is encouraging to know there are those who understand and appreciate what some of us are trying to accomplish here at our state's capitol. But for all our effort, I must tell you, we are not winning. We are losing

Last year the immunization tracking system was ratcheted up with more funding and more stringent rules to track every child in Colorado, including a list of those who refuse to comply with state mandated vaccinations. This year the funding was increased again.

Dozens of new programs of every description have been approved by our current legislature. Many are driving up the cost of businesses through taxes, fees and regulations, quenching the entrepreneurial spirit that our nation has thrived on.

Many of these measures will also have a direct impact on the primary authority of parents and the foundational significance of the family.

Senate Bill 73 expands the compulsory school ages by three additional years. House Bill 1249 completely removes parental authority for a minor girl's medical care if she is pregnant. HB 1212 will allow morning after pills to any girl, of any age, at any time, without even a doctor's prescription, or parental notification. HB 1344 will send the question of civil unions to the voters next November, and even if the currently proposed marriage amendment passes, civil unions could still become the law of our land.

Next year's $16.5 billion budget is $1.2 b. more than this year's budget. Today, in far too many households, mom and dad both work and for one of them their salary is just paying the taxes.

The family is being replaced by the state and the free market is being regulated out of existence.

Step by step this legislature has capitulated to the soft and subtle siren of socialism.

What has happened to the American spirit of liberty and independence? Where is the courage and self-reliance of the individual? When did the family start to lose it's God given authority?

Just about everyday of the session this legislature has been dismantling your liberty... and we asked for it. We, the people of Colorado set it all in motion last November and in November of 2004.

In 2004 the people of Colorado determined who would make the decisions for this legislative session. This past November the people of Colorado took the lid off what we can spend. And today we are experiencing the result.

I ask you, is this what you want for your children?

We must fix this unacceptable circumstance and I call on all of you to do your part.

We can start the movement that will bring back common sense, morally upright, principles of liberty to the state of Colorado.

Will you stand with me?

Will you work with me?

Then I challenge you to do three things:

First, teach your children well. Raise them in the fear and admonition of the Lord, teach them God's Word, give them academically excellent studies and be the example they need by volunteering in your community, at your church and within your government.

Second, pray for those in authority. Not only for our leaders who have the intention of limiting government and preserving our moral compass, but even as Scripture calls for, pray for all of those in authority.

Finally, don't let one more election pass without doing all you can to elect those who do represent your values. Identify the best candidates in your area and volunteer to walk precincts, man a phone bank, stuff envelopes, distribute yard signs -- do all you can to make a difference in their campaign. Show your children what good citizenship is all about. Send to the next legislature warriors for the truth.

Get involved in that one decision next November that will cast the die for the all of the decisions that will ultimately be made by the next legislature to sit in this building.

Once again, I thank you for this honor, and I plead with you to start that movement, that with God's blessing, will bring back common sense, morally upright, principles of liberty to the state and people of Colorado.
